A Recipe for Good Dental Health
|
|
A diet with
nutrients from all food groups is what your child needs. There should be a
little of everything--carbohydrates, proteins, and fats-- in every meal.
While fruits, vegetable, cheeses are good for your child’s teeth, starchy
foodstuff like pasta and breads are not, as are cookies, candies, pastries,
cakes, colas—namely any type of fast food your child will be naturally drawn
to! |

So the best way to make
a meal that attracts your little one as well as gives him/her proper
nutrition and keeps teeth healthy could probably look like a nice colorful
salad, with dollops of fun!
For example, take an apple, orange, grapefruit, strawberries, cranberries.
Take a couple of pieces of each fruit and add some cucumber, pear, or celery
if you want. These help induce saliva that washes away sugars present in
such fruits and veggies and averts buildup of food remnants. Wash them
thoroughly, mix them with some non-fat yogurt or vinegar. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Before serving it to your child,
add some golden honey. Honey fights microbes that cause tooth decay and
reduces acid production that brings on dental plaque.
To round off the meal give him/her a slice of cheese. Any milk product like
cheese is a good source of calcium that is helps teeth development, keeps
caries at bay, hardens teeth, and discourages softening.
Most importantly, encourage your child to drink water instead of any
flavored drink. Let him/her grow up to appreciate water and drink it
willingly. As natural lubricant and cleanser, water is an indispensable
medium for body metabolism and acts as cleansing agent that flushes out
toxic waste. |
