Kids love games. There is no doubt about it,
board games, playground games, and video and computer games, even card
games. Did you know card games can help you to teach your child critical
thinking skills? Well, yes they most certainly can. Think about the oldie
but goody, UNO. In the game of UNO the object is to get rid of your hand by
playing a match on the playing stack of either the same number of the same
color as the one on top. You want to be the first play to get rid of all of
your cards. UNO can be a game of
strategy, especially if you include the SKIP and REVERSE cards, which you
can eliminate at first to make the game a little easier for younger
children. However, adding these cards back to the mix allows older children
the ability to strengthen their skills even more and increases the strategy
that is part of the game.
UNO uses a variety of the child’s skills
including visual analysis and logic. They not only have to look at the
cards and analyze which one visually matches up but also use their own logic
to determine, though they might have two cards that they can play, which
they should play now, and which they can hold off playing until later.
Ultimately which one would be a better move for them at whatever point of
the game they are in currently.
Once your child has mastered this game, you
might move on to other games that include a little more strategy and logic,
including Rummy or Chess.
Making learning fun is a very important
part of teaching your children. Education can be something that can happen
through practical and fun times spent together as a family, such as an
evening game of UNO. |
