Felt Giveaway Contest

It is time for another felt giveaway!

This month I am giving away The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

This set comes with one adorable old lady and four flies, four spiders, four birds, two cats, two dogs, two cows and two horses. It also includes a copy of the Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly poem.

To enter the contest this month just leave a comment below. In your comment let us know about one of your favorite activities that you like to do with your children in the summer.

I will kick things off by share one activity that we do a lot. Making bubbles is always a huge hit for us in the summer. Not only do we make our own bubbles, but we have fun making our own different bubble blowers and testing them out.

The drawing for this contest will be June 13th, so get your entry in before then!

I love to walk the children to the park so they can experience nature and learn about traffic safety. At the park they can run, jump and play on the wonderful playground equipment. After a busy morning at the park they are all ready for lunch and naptime when we return home.

Great website and ideas. One of our favorite summertime activities is making playdough. The kids have fun measuring out all of the ingredients and then mixing them together. Then they have fun playing with the fresh playdough that they made.

We started two years ago having a Parker Family Camp. The grandkids really love it. We take a day and fill it with arts and crafts, snow cones, water games and always take pictures and make picture frames to take home to document the day. We also make t-shirts for all seven grandkids. One or two daughter-in-laws always help.

My kids LOVE to play with chalk. It’s one of their favorite things to do when it’s nice outside. We decorate our driveway with traced pictures of ourselves, flowers, suns, names. We practice writing letters, numbers words, everything. Then when ours is filled, we move across the street and decorate our favorite neighbor’s driveway (she’s 80) with pictures for her to enjoy!

Going to the library for the Summer reading program, cooking together in the kitchen learning to follow recipes, and taking day trips to points of interest around our area are my favorite Summer fun (yet learning) activities.

I love the Thursday Thinkers – thanks! As for the summer, my son is lucky to have a July 4th birthday so his b-day parties are full of summer fun. We set up a slide and/or plastic sheet on a hill and adults hold the hose so the kids have great fun sliding down the hill! Last year we held relay races outside – water-filled balloons were a hot weather hit, as well as racing to empty buckets of water using little drink cups! Later in the evening, after a watermelon break on the lawn – we always ride over to watch the fireworks. Other summer fun is to ride our bicycles everywhere, especially with a pit stop at an ice cream stand!

I love the hot days of summer! We like to go for nature walks where my sons can catch the frogs and study them! Of course we let them go after! Turtles are a favourite for my sons to find too! We always make sure that we have lots of sunscreen and bug lotion with us since the best places to walk are in local picnic areas that have water features, rivers or ponds!

These felt books are great. Since it gets really hot and humid down here in Florida, we like to spend most of our time at the pool. My daughter loves the water! She has also developed a great immagination using her toys and the pool noodle. (She pretends she is fishing for sharks, swimming dinosaurs, etc.) Last summer we took her to a free movie (the movie theaters have a list of free kid movies during the day-you will have to check your theater for times)–anyway we hope to take advantage of the moview this year.

Thank you for the great giveaways!

I like to participate in our church’s Vacation Bible Camp, and speak with our kids about how wonderfully they are created and how to become everything good that they were created to be. Many lives are changed forever and parents see a difference in their kids when Camp is over. Walking is love is awesome!

    Vicki Wasson Says:

We turn our swing set into a water park. I set the sprinkler onto the swing set and the kids go down the slides, on the swings, etc in the water. It solved the problem of my son asking to go to a water park every day and cools everyone off.

  11. 11
    Mary Kasper Says:

The children and I go on weekend excursions. Day trips to the zoo with lots of playtime on our swing set in between. Summertime is our favorite time together as we love the outdoors!

We love to picnic at the Loch Raven Reservoir just north of Baltimore. It’s incredibly beautiful, never crowded, and teeming with wildlife. My daughter roams joyfully amongst the enormous trees, chasing birds and squirrels, laughing at the easily frazzled water-fowl and generally exhausting herself. We adults just like to sit back and enjoy. I can’t wait to bring our son there this summer to watch him toddle after butterflies!

  17. 17
    Ruth Says:

I absolutely love spending time with my daughter in the summer going to see musicals. It’s often too hot to do outdoors things, but when it’s not, I love to take her to the park.

  18. 18
    Kara Says:

My kids and I enjoy lots of water play! We get out buckets of all sizes, shapes, including ice cream pails, washed plastic containers, etc. We also have clear hoses (tubing) and other fun items. We experiment with moving the water, mixing in food coloring, etc. It is really cool and then they cool off with splashing, pouring, and just getting really wet!

  19. 19
    Kristen Says:

We play car wash and wash my daughter’s big wheels, wagon, her little toy cars, etc. We also use the hose and spray each other with it! She gets a kick out of spraying me!

    Neha Says:

i organised a summer camp for my son, ‘lets pretend’ this summer. did a lot of pretend play ranging from carpenter, gardener, bob the builder, artist, etc. did a lot of scrap booking, so wherever we went on day trips we’d come back and have a scrap book session. the pretend play fever and scrap booking has continued for the entire summer! he comes up with a new person to pretend to be eact day.

  21. 21
    Christy Says:

My favorite thing about summer is having the time to teach the children self-care skills that will help us all throughout the year. The kids have chores to earn money and carefully plan what they are saving for on shopping day. They help plan the menu for the week as well as help make the meals. We can use daily tasks to work on individual goals as well such as sorting, sequencing, and lots of math. Having lots of children and a busy teaching schedule (yes even some in the summer), it is very helpful to teach the children what is expected of them such as what a clean room looks like as well as the importance and satisfaction received from saving/ waiting to reach a goal. We also do the fun things of summer as well as visiting family (to show off our manners!). But these basic intensive self-care workshops will benefit my children throughout their life.

  22. 22
    Cynthia Keeler Says:

My family loves summer! We love the outdoors and all that it has to offer. One of our favorite activities is bubble play. We purchase bubble mixtures and make our own. It leads to lots of comparisons. The children have discovered a variety of ways to make their own bubble wands. We often have contests as to who can make the biggest, smallest, most and so on. We love to fill our neighborhood with beautiful bubbles!

  23. 23
    Donna Says:

In the summer my day care kids love to play with water. We use the hose and sprinkler to splash and run thru. They love for me to run the hose on the swing set so they can play with the water splashing on them. We have a “car wash” where we wash all the riding toys. We have this huge beach ball that has holes all over it, and you hook up a water hose to it and it rolls in all directions spraying out water. The kids love it! We do lots of outdoor activities and lots of water play. I would love to win this flannel board set for my day care kids. I think all of your sets are so neat.

  24. 24
    Linda B. Says:

The kids enjoy the summer reading program at the library, swimming in our pool, jumping on the trampoline, grilling in the backyard, and just being outside enjoying the nice weather.

  25. 25
    Nadine Says:

We have tons of activities here in the backyard. Instead of joining expensive camps and such we use the money we would have spent on something for the backyard. This year we bought bug collection kits for the kids with the mini vacuum in it. We are a busy family so we try and get out of the house whenever possible to have family time outside playing. As soon as the weather is decent we are out all weekend. We are soon going to be planning playdates with local kids to keep them and us moms busy.

    Nadine

  68. 68

During the summer my center runs a summer camp program which our preschoolers are too young to attend. So each July I set a Down by the Sea theme. We do all sorts of activities relating to the beach including playing volleyball with beach balls or balloons, digging for seashells in the sandtable, water activities and learning about sea animals. (I usually send away to Sea World every year for their teacher kit and then downgrade the songs and activities to the age I am working with.) Part of the activities also include a moving bulletin board. We fingerpaint the ocean and each time we make an art project pertaining to the beach (mostly the sea creatures) we add them to the bulletin board. By the end of the month our board is full. I take pictures each time we add something which I put together as a book so my students can continue to see the board and “read” about it. We have even made up our own Sea story based on our photo book! The whole month is so busy and fun filled that it would be impossible for me to describe only one activity!

One new activity is hiking, it’s such a great activity, and though we are all working up a sweat, the scenery distracts us from being exhausted. But when the weather is too much we love to take the kids to do fun indoor activities. One plavce that we love that is also free is the mall indoor play area. We are going to go to a Jump house next week! We love doing anythin that keeps our famliy active! Thank YOU!
